Praying Through

“Scripture is God’s way of initiating a conversation; prayer is our response. The paradigm shift happens when you realize that the Bible is not meant to be read through; the Bible was meant to be prayed through. And if you pray through it, you’ll never run out of things to talk about.” Mark Batterson, The Circle Maker

Praying through my reading from the last couple of weeks:

Lord you sit enthroned on high,

You stoop down to look on us,

Who is like You? (Psalm 112:5,6)

You bring me into a spacious place when I am hard pressed. (Psalm 118:5)

You make everything beautiful in its time and set eternity in our hearts. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

You are perfectly faithful. (Isaiah 25:1)

You are our God, we trusted in You, and You have saved us (Isaiah 25:9)

My Requests:

Never shaken, no fear of bad news, with a steadfast trusting heart (Psalm 112:6-7)

Turn my eyes away from worthless things (Psalm 119:37)

May I hold fast to wisdom (Proverbs 3:18)

Nourish others with my words (Proverbs 10:21)

Be kind hearted (Proverbs 11:16)

A wife of noble character (Proverbs 12:4)

A woman who fears the Lord and a refuge for my children (Proverbs 14:26)

:::

What a journey! Today, marks my 50th day of reading and I am overwhelmed by what God is revealing to my heart. I loved how the above quote from Mark Batterson lined up perfectly with my reading. To pray through – not just read through.  This makes it a 2 way conversation. Love that.

What about you? Are you still reading your Bible this day with a goal to be finished around Labor Day?  You know, there is no shame it in it taking a bit longer.  I want to encourage you if you are ‘behind’ to just. keep. reading. God blesses every effort.  He will meet you right where you are.  I’d love to hear what He is teaching you!

Way to go, Stacey. I am still plugging along through the Bible in a Year, which I only started in April. It is hard with these crazy summer days, but so worth it!
