Super Bowl God Sized Dreams

Sunday night I watched with everyone else as Jennifer and the kids from Sandy Hook sang, the brothers played, and the lights went off and came back on. Truth be told I was pulling more for Jim than John because he was a Colt back in the day. I thought about my own brother and our years playing Nerf football in the back yard and I wondered if they thought about stuff like that, too.

My heart wandered up to the stadium box seats where Jack and Jackie sat with the rest of the family. This must have been the best of days, and maybe one of the hardest. They cheered for whoever had the ball and in some ways I did as well. How do you watch both of  your grown up boys chasing their God sized dreams knowing that only one will win the prize?

I don’t hardly know. I do think they did an amazing job as parents. What did John say after his big win about his little brother?

“There’s no greater competitor and no greater coach in the National Football League or in the world, as far as I’m concerned, than Jim Harbaugh. The way that team played proves it. … That is who he is and that is who they are. I could not be more proud of him.” via CBS News

These words brings this mama to tears. I know it is just a game. But, this story reminds me of the importance of our families and how when we chase after our dreams we get to take them with us.

“Who has it better than us?” was said over and over by The Harbough family. They didn’t just start saying it. Apparently, this was a family motto of sorts. See, dreamers raise dreamers and Jack and Jackie must have told their kids over and over they could dream big.

When I think of my own God sized dreams of writing books and encouraging women I wonder how it will effect my four daughters. Will it challenge them to dream big, too? My husband said once, “Can you imagine how it will change the lives of  our girls for them to say one day their mom is an author?” This was in response to me asking what business this mother of four  had calling herself a writer. His words meant the world to me that day.

I don’t think it is just about being a writer or an author. I think it has more to do with being a mom and still being a God sized dreamer.

It is about grabbing my girls and saying, “Who has it better than us?”

It is about dreaming big dreams.

Taking my family with me.

Celebrating the wins and the losses—together.

That is so fun that he said that! I can only hope that no matter what my boys stay proud of each other. And I also hope that they will always dream big because they saw their parents dreaming big.
