Hope for the Weary Mom, in Austin, TX

Her first email to us said, “Pray over this will ya?”

“This” was the idea for Kitchen Table Talks. An outreach of Lamplighters Bible Study, Kitchen Table Talks are a series of informal meetings for women to gather around the table for encouragement about things that matter most in life. Kristin wanted Brooke and I to come and sit at the very first KTT, share our hearts and the message of “Hope for the Weary Mom.”

So we prayed.  And of course, we went.   It was amazing.

I’ve been sitting here trying to sum up how amazing it was, and words fail. The best thing I can tell you is that 80 moms came with their sweet babies in tow.  The women of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin know that in order to get moms to come to anything, you have to love on them through their littles. These 80 women came from 27 different churches in and around the Austin area.  Each one of them had a story.

Brooke and I told ours. We explained how two weary moms met Hope in the middle of their messy lives and found encouragement in journeying together.  We cried a little.  We laughed a lot.  Mostly, we just did life together.

Then, we let them actually talk at their tables. Which is exactly what they did.  One mom said, “We could have talked for hours.” Our hearts were full.

Somewhere in the midst of all of this awesomeness, we had a little time to do this:

Which was what this weary mom needed. But then again, you know how I feel about porches and sitting on them.

So I’m in Austin, as in Texas

So this is me right before I boarded a plane bound for Austin, Texas this morning. It  was taken slightly after I dumped my Grande Hazelnut Latte on my brand new shirt and jeans. Yeah, I’m coordinated like that. Since I was not traveling with my children, I had nothing to clean myself up with.  Luckily, two business travelers came to my rescue.  They also were very concerned about my laptop. I was more concerned about my shirt and lack of coffee.

I am now safely in Austin and enjoying every minute of it with Brooke and Kristin, our amazing hostess. Tomorrow, Brooke and I are speaking about Hope for the Weary Mom: Where God Meets You in Your Mess to a lovely group of moms.  I’d be so blessed if you would say a prayer for us.  Namely that God will speak through us His message and that every mom will leave with a bit of HOPE tucked in her heart.

I can’t wait to tell you all about it next week!

I’m trying to figure out what to wear for our talk. Maybe this?

What I Wore Wednesay

I have my days when all I want to do is pick up an InStyle magazine and read about nothingness. Today feels like one of those days.  So, in effort to keep it light today, I’m starting with really important news:

I bought a skirt! I’m wearing it today….and was spotted in it several times last week. I don’t even know myself anymore!

Left: Red top I’m not loving in this photo (Ann Taylor Loft), Tan Pants (Ann Taylor Loft)

Center: White t-shirt (Kohls), Black roll top skirt (Old Navy)

Right: Striped cardigan (Ann Taylor Loft), White v-neck t-shirt (Target), Wide Belt & Jeans (American Eagle)

When you have all girls, you can take cute pictures of their colored flip flops. Don’t be alarmed, the baby has 2 feet she just was being, well 2 years old at the time.  To prove that I did wear the skirt and she has 2 feet, see picture at right. Also, the flip flops were a steal at Old Navy.  We outfitted the entire girl crew for about $15.  Gotta love spring!

What are you wearing today?

Have you bought your flip flops yet?

I need a great color for my toes, any suggestions?

I hope you have a great day.  Really I do!

{linking up here today, of course!}
