What Feeds Your Soul Dream Girl?

morecupcakeswithrob

What feeds your soul God-sized dream girl? You know, that thing that energizes you and sets your heart on fire? The thing, that truly makes you want to sing? What brings you life? What is it that you do, that does not feel like work but play?

I know what feeds my heart. I know what breathes life into this weary mom. Daily, it is my relationship with Jesus. My favorite thing to do is go on dates with Him. He likes to go to Barnes and Noble with me and eat vanilla cupcakes. He listens so intently that I don’t have to speak. Since He is the source of my dreams, this not only encourages my heart, it gives me a fresh vision. Jesus, is awesome like that. Even when I can’t get a special hour or two away, He waits for me every morning in my big red chair to chat. See, He makes house calls, too.

The other thing that works wonders in my life is time with friends. Close personal friendships are fuel for me. I walk away from face to face time with them changed, lighter, and inspired to keep chasing my dreams. Without them, I dry up like a thirsty riverbed in need of a good spring rain.

But, here is the crazy mixed up truth: Purposeful time with Jesus and my friends doesn’t just happen in my life. I have to schedule it. Busy does a good job of squeezing these life giving activities out of my day. I’m learning, to look for pockets of time that I can guard and keep sacred for Jesus, and women who push me towards Him.

Because, my heart needs to beat with His.
And I need friends to share life and joy and yes dreams with.

Don’t you?

Stacey

When Your Heart Needs a Reminder

Last week,I asked God to speak specifically to my heart. He did. He always does when I ask and take the time to listen. Then, He reminded me that we have already had this conversation a million other times. I’m so glad He is fond of repeating Himself. See, I wrote about the very same thing right here a couple of years ago…”

wgwytkcover

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when

Christ Jesus returns.

Philippians 1:6

I’m a mess, really. Sometimes….

  • My kids eat pizza for more meals than they don’t.
  • I tweet more than I talk to my husband.
  • I want to hide at Starbucks.
  • My voice can be heard by every neighbor within several houses.
  • I worry.
  • I don’t cry and I wonder is something wrong with me?
  • I can’t stop crying.
  • I want a friend to call, but I also want to be alone.

I could go on and on. I have so far to go. But, if I believe the Bible, (and I do), then I can’t pick and choose which parts. He is the way, the TRUTH, and the life. So, even when I think, surely, I am the only one who will remain a mess forever, He swoops in with a promise like this:

My name is Alpha. My name is Omega. And I always finish what I started. It may not be in your timing. It may look the way you

think. But I will finish it. Check the text. It is written.

Are you a mess, too? Do you wonder if you will ever get to where He says you will? My sweet sister, He wants you to know, though you see yourself as a mess, He calls you beautiful. He will finish what He started. And I’m talking to you, and I’m talking to me.

Let’s believe it, together, okay?”

Pack a box. Change a life. 100 Million Reasons to Celebrate

All she wanted in the whole world was hair clips. It was her highest priority. Livia Satterfield did not imagine she could ever have a family. Growing up in an orphanage in Romania took away any hope of that dream years ago. But, hair clips became her obsession.

One day volunteers from Samaritan’s Purse showed up with Shoebox gifts for all the children. Connie, one of the volunteers, handed a box to Livia of her very own. She could not contain her excitement when she opened the gift and sitting on the top of the box was hair clips in every color.

Livia later went on to accept the love and forgiveness of Jesus into her heart and two years later, Connie came back to her orphanage and adopted her into a forever family.

I heard this story last Saturday night at Operation Christmas Child’s 100 Million Shoebox Celebration. I was completely undone over hair clips. A box loving packed by an unknown family who prayed and put hair clips in a box and sent it across the world. God directed that box right into the hands of Livia. God had seen her and He knew the desires of her heart. He broke her heart wide open over hair clips.

100 million shoe boxes is an extraordinary number. But, one box sent in Jesus name is a powerful gift.

“With 100 million shoe boxes, we’ve had 100 million opportunities to share with an otherwise forgotten child about that gift of forgiveness [when Jesus died for our sins] that has changed our lives, and that is what we celebrate tonight,” Matthew West, Grammy Nominated Christian Artist.

“It’s something God has done and we want to give Him the glory,” Franklin Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse.

What has God done through a simple gift like a shoe box?

  • 100 Million Shoe Boxes
  • 100 Million Presentations of the Gospel
  • 127+ Countries
  • Thousands of Volunteers
  • Churches All Over the World have participated

What could He do with yours?

P.S. For more information on how you can be involved, go to Samaritan’s Purse. Evelyn did. She is 12 and has packed over 2,500 shoe boxes in four years. Yeah, I threw that in to remind you of how easy this mission project can be. Even a child can do it!

When Spring Breaks You a Little

bigtree4

Today is the Tuesday after Spring Break. Easter baskets with plastic eggs sit on my counter with several pieces of second choice candy bits left over. The sun is warm (finally) and I’m trying hard not to drink a fourth cup of coffee. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of crazy at my house. I’m worn thin. You might say, weary. You’d think, since I co-wrote a book on the topic, I would have this all figured out.

Just to keep the record straight, I so don’t.

Today is a day, much like yesterday, that I need to preach the message of hope to myself over and over again. I need to look long and hard at the empty tomb and remember that since Jesus isn’t there—He can be found here, with me.

I need to remember I am not alone:

Matthew 28:20 “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

I need to remember He has prayed for me:

John 17:20 “I am praying not only for these disciples, but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.”

And right now, He IS praying for me:

Hebrews 10:25 “…He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.”

These are the things I’m telling myself today. I’m a little broken, and the only thing that ever puts the pieces back together for me is the Word made flesh whispering in my heart we are going to make it.

Question: What do you need to remember today?

Dear God-Sized Dream Girl, It Matters.

 God is for you

I see you standing there. You are wondering how in the world  your dream will fly when you can’t seem to get the pile of laundry off the dining room table. You are thinking to yourself, “I am crazy to believe my dream matters.”

But,I want to tell you it does.

Your dream matters.

It matters for two reasons you can’t argue with.

First of all, the dream you have in your heart was put there by the One who knows you best. He knows your ways. He knows your gifts and your abilities. He is not bothered one bit by the laundry kicking your tail. His plans for you. . . are good. You can trust if His voice whispered your dream, then it matters because He doesn’t waste time on dreams that don’t.

Second it matters because He flat out loves you girl. What you care about—well, He cares about. He wants to see you shine like the stars for Him.  Your God-sized dream is not about YOU. It is all about His glory. You get to be part of it because He loves you and wants to see you wrapped up in it doing what He created you to do. This will bring you great joy. His glory and your joy is a winning combination.

If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31

I know if you had a day like I had today, you might be tempted to think why bother. Why say it, share it, make it, do it, or pursue anything that remotely looks like a God-sized dream. Some days feel dreadfully ordinary. But in these ordinary days, God is making you like Himself. He is at work behind the scenes to prepare the time and place for your dream to take flight.

And in His timing, it will fly dream girl. You will be so glad you didn’t miss one breathtaking moment of the journey.

Even the ordinary laundry filled days like today.

xo,

Stacey

P.S. Was today an ordinary day? How can I encourage you to keep dreaming and putting one foot in front of the other? Might I pray for you today? Leave a comment and I will do just that. I pinky-promise.

Becoming God’s Writer Mom with Tricia Goyer {A God Sized Dreamer}

Allume2012triciabrooke

Myself, Tricia, & Brooke

I “met” Tricia Goyer online last fall when she agreed to write the forward of “Hope for the Weary Mom”.  I met her in real life a few weeks later at a blogging conference called, Allume.  She was teaching a break out session called “Becoming God’s Writer Mom”. I sat on the front row, and may have appeared to be stalker(ish) or in the least a little over excited. She was everything kind and gracious.

You are called! God said “I have a passion for you. I have a plan for you.  I have called you.” – Tricia Goyer,

Tricia is the author of over 30 books and 500 articles. She has won numerous awards for her words. She opened her talk with this:

The world sees a quiet office filled with the books I’ve written. But God saw an unlikely scribe raising little blessings.

Tricia spoke for about an hour on the topic of how being a writer impacts my kids, and how being a mom impacts my writing. When she was finished I wanted to stand on the table and start a “Writer Mom Cheer.”  I did not, but I wanted to. Tricia, helped paint a vision for me that has stuck solid in the days since, especially on days when struggle with words and time to get it all done.

She inspired me to involve my girls in my writing and ask them to pray for me. For example, the other day I shared a decision I needed to make about a writing opportunity with my girl tribe while we drove home from Target. My girls listened, gave me their opinions, and I have to say—they were precious thoughts. They felt valued as I shared my heart with them. In the end I took their advice.

If you know any of Tricia’s story, then you know God is most certainly in the business of calling and using moms as writers. But, sometimes when I’m tempted to doubt my own calling I need reminders and others to share their story. Tricia does this every chance she gets. She doesn’t hide the fact that she was a single teenage mother who still had a dream. One that God placed in her heart and she was willing to work hard for. I love that about her.

God sized dreamers can simply tell their stories and inspire me to want to pursue mine. But, when a God sized dreamer cares enough to remember those walking a few steps behind her and offer a hand up, then my God sized dream has a chance to soar, as well. Tricia has done this for me on more than one occasion.  She took a chance and wrote a forward for tiny little e-book called “Hope.”  She has also emailed me and offered to help out in any way she could with my writing journey. She genuinely wants to see other women become God’s Writer Moms. See, don’t you love her now, too?

Thank you Tricia for being a God sized dreamer.

Thank you for inspiring mine.

Q: Do you know a God sized dreamer who has inspired you? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
