The Word of God and the Heroes Who Shaped America {Giveaway}

The first and almost the only book deserving of universal attention is the Bible.  I speak as a man of the world…and I say to you, ‘Search the Scriptures.’

John Adams, Second President of the United States of America

You know I love God’s Word.  I love sharing it with my girls in every way I can.  Next semester, we are  focusing on American History and studying our founding fathers.  I could not be more excited to tell you about a resource, produced by Thomas Nelson, that brings these two things together.  It is the Young American Patriot’s Bible ,by Dr. Richard G. Lee.

{from the inside cover} This Bible “pairs the New King James Version with articles focusing on many of the heroes and events that helped to make this nation what it is today.  Beautiful full-color insert pages spotlight a collection of presidents, great thinkers, influential people, monuments, and events that present the rich heritage and future of our great nation.”

Thomas Nelson was kind enough to send me a copy to review and my oldest daughter took it immediately to her room to read the 64 articles. I love that!  We are planning to use this as our school room Bible and keep in nearby as we study next semester. I believe, it will help my girls understand the importance of God’s Word and how it helped shape our country.

31 Days {Day 27} :: Two are Better {Giveaway}

flickr photo credit edenpictures

God has always been a fan of the buddy system.

Adam had Eve.

The animals came two by two.

David had Jonathan.

Jesus had 12.

Paul had Silas, Timothy, Barnabas and Mark.

You were made like Him, and He is the perfect strand of 3.

Who encourages you? When was the last time you sat across the table from her or shared your cheesecake?  Did you notice that when you parted, you were stronger, just by being together?

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12

God wants you to know He made you to fit with others. The best of the best are those who share your heart and passion for Him.  Those cords are the strongest.  I know relationships take time, I struggle to maintain them in my life as a busy mom of four.  But every effort is blessed.

Now, for something fun! One of my favorite writers and (in)Couragers is Holley Gerth.  I’m looking forward to seeing her this week at the Relevant Conference.   She is a writer for Dayspring and one of the amazing women behind (in)Courage.  She has the sweetest new book called “God’s Heart for You.”

She has graciously sent me 2 copies, and I’m giving them away today! If you win, you get to keep one and give the other to your BFF. Just leave a comment and tell me how you met and what is your favorite thing to do together.  I’ll announce the winner next week!

Our October 31 day journey of What God Wants You to Know is almost finished!  I hope you will keep stopping by this weekend, some of my favorite posts are in the queue ready for you and your morning coffee.  If you missed any posts, check out the summary page here.

Savoring Living Water :: Review and Giveaway

Meet Lara and Katie.  Not only have they  agreed to be my roomies for The Relevant Blogging Conference,

they want to…

Equip.

Inspire.

And encourage to dig deeper into God’s Word.

They are kindred hearts that met online through, Kat’s Make Your Morning Challenge.  They have poured their passion for God’s Word into an Ebook that you will love.

We long for each of you to experience deep, satisfying, regular times connecting with God through the Bible. We present some tools you can use to connect with Him in a meaningful way. And as you pick up these tools, we pray that the Spirit of God does a transforming work in your heart. We pray He draws you into a deeper place with Him as a result of reading Savoring Living Water.

—from the intro

I love that Katie and Lara are not simply giving you a Bible Study to complete. But, they are giving you the cup, showing you the well, and equipping you to draw your own vessel of overflowing living water that will quench the deep down thirst in your soul.

They do this by:

  • Answering why we need to drink deeply from God’s Word, daily.
  • Telling you how to set a time and place to make sure we are savoring His Word.
  • Tools to help you discover for yourself what God wants to pour into your life.
  • A challenge to hide God’s Word in your heart forever.
  • Encouraging you to see His Word spilling over into the lives of others.

So, are your thirsty? I mean do you have a dry parched area right in the center of your heart that is longing for a drink of that living water?  Personally, I was reminded of my own need for God’s Word and challenged to once again hide it in my heart.  Katie and Lara have graciously offered to give a copy of their Ebook to one of you who leaves a comment here today. Tell me, what part of studying God’s Word do you find the most challenging, or why you would love to win this Ebook.

You can buy Savoring Living Water for only $5.49 at *Amazon.  Or buy the PDF version, here.

Here is the best part.  For every Ebook they sell, they are giving $2.00 to OneVerse, an organization committed to ending Bible poverty.  They have a Crazy Big Goal.  You should check it out.  Let’s help them meet it!

Grace for the Good Girl

Are you a Good Girl? Well, you might be if you:

  • Use the word should, like a lot.
  • Identify with the dinosaur in Toys Story and guilt drives you.
  • You are always, fine.
  • You have a hard time asking for help.
  • No one really knows the conversation going on in your head.
  • Fear dominates your life.
  • The worst thing in the world is failure.
  • You are so. so. tired.
  • You burst into tears just reading the title of this book.

Last May, I had the chance to read a preview copy of Grace for the Good Girl, by Emily Freeman. It broke me wide open and turned me inside out. This book is a life changer.  I don’t know if you are a self proclaimed Good Girl or not.  But there is something in this book for every girl who thinks she is not enough and wants to breathe Grace.  Yes, this one is for you.

I have not met Emily in real life, but somehow she managed to pen a message straight from God that resonates rich and true in my life. She put her heart on a page and took mine along for the ride, as well.

In the midst of coping and living out my life without so much as a clue as to how to unravel the story, Grace for the Good Girl found me. With book in hand, I’m opening doors in my heart that hold stuff I thought I’d dealt with. I’m facing the Good Girl and looking her straight in the eye. But this time, I have a friend, a tribe.

—Stacey Thacker (that’s me….)

I am thrilled to be giving a copy of this book away today to one Good Girl who leaves a comment. Or maybe, you are a not Good enough girl and you want to know desperately that Grace is calling your name as well.  To enter, leave a comment and tell me why you want to read this book or who you would share it with. Post it on Facebook and or Tweet about it, and you can give yourself an extra comment. I will announce the winner on Friday!

: : :

This Thursday and Friday, I will be sharing a little bit of my personal Good Girl story. Cause, you know I have one.  Next Tuesday, we will discuss part one of Grace for the Good Girl.  I’ll be the one blubbering on the screen wiping the tears from my eyes trying to type.  How can you resist an invitation like that? I do hope you will join me!

{Full disclosure: I received a preview copy as well as 2 complete copies (one for me and one to give away here) of Grace for The Good Girl and was asked to review it.  All opinions are my own.  In fact, I would have read it anyway.}

Back To School :: What Kind of Planner are You? {Giveaway}

Today is the day.  We are back to school. My girls will devour the donuts, I will drink an extra cup of coffee and we will dream of what the year holds for us.  I don’t write about it much, but homeschooling is a huge part of our lives. I think finally, as I start my 7th year of teaching my girls {wow!} I am settling into my own brand of homeschooling.

So, what is my homeschool brand?

  • I love the big picture.
  • Vision planning their year is my favorite part.
  • I don’t really have a super structured daily plan.
  • I write down what we DID instead of what I think we will DO.
  • We partner with an umbrella school.  They keep my records and me sane.
  • My girls go 1 day each week and take classes through this umbrella school.
  • I thoroughly enjoy my 1 day off from teaching.  {I am looking forward to lots of Starbuck this year with my 2 year old!}
  • I am pretty much a unit study based girl.
  • My girls have basically done the same curriculum, because I know it and can tailor it to their needs. {Does that make me lazy?}
  • We love to read, and my passion is that they will be life long readers! {So far, so good!}
  • Yes, I’m in this for the long haul.
  • I thrive on encouragement from those who have stayed the course and finished.{like her and her}
  • I try not to sweat the little things.

: : :

Now how about a fun giveaway? My friend, Jolanthe, from Homeschool Creations is brilliant.  She has an amazing blog devoted to all the amazing things she does with her kids in their homeschool.  I drool every time I read one of her posts.    She has created a homeschool planner for every type of homeschool mom!  {Including, me!}

I have been using it in my planning this past week and I love that it is a pdf that you can edit! Can I get an amen???  Ok, this is huge for me!  Here is what I did.  I saved it as a pdf to keep the original.  Then I saved it a second time as a “save as” and put “2011/2012 school year” as the title.  So next year, I can do the same thing but, change the name!  Brilliant! {Also, Jolanthe’s idea.}

Here is the nitty gritty:

What’s inside this editable pdf planner:

* 138 planning pages ~ 8 1/2″ x 11″ sized
* 12 blank month-at-a-glance pages
* 40 weeks of weekly planning and journal sheets: each page can be customized to the
subjects that your family studies and can be saved to your computer!
* Preschool planning sheets
* Field trip/Event plan sheets
* Yearly curriculum planning sheets
* Yearly planning and evaluation sheets
* Yearly attendance tracking sheets
* Field trip/Event plan sheets
* Daily to-do lists
* Main dish menu planner
* Customizable chore charts
* Important contacts info
* Additional note space
* Standardized testing and yearly assessment result tracking
* Homeschooling requirement planning

I’m still playing around with mine, but I am excited to use it this year. The neat thing is that today and tomorrow only, Jolanthe has slashed the price for you from $20 to $12. And one lucky person, who leaves a comment here, will win one for free.

Tell me, what type of planner are you?  Do you know your homeschool brand yet? Leave a comment, and be sure to get your copy of the planner for only $12. As usual, if you share this on Facebook and Twitter, you can leave an extra comment. Tell your friends about the sale, too! Since I know you have to get your planning on, I’ll announce the winner tomorrow! I’ll be sharing about our curriculum for the year!

How to Market and Sell your eBook {Review and Giveaway}

Once upon a time there was a girl named Sarah Mae who had an idea and wrote an eBook called *31 Days to Clean – Having a Martha House the Mary Way.  She hired a real live graphic designer, wrote it in a week, and leveraged the power of social media to market her virtual book.  Sarah Mae dreamed it would sell about 500 copies and priced it so every woman could afford it, at $4.99.  Little did she know, that some 6 weeks later it would be one of Amazon’s top eBooks and sell over 11,000 copies.  So what did she decide to do next?  She wrote another eBook documenting her journey so that you can follow in her footsteps and do the exact same thing. Don’t you just love a girl who shares?

*****

I was able to read  *How to Market and Sell Your eBook – Everything You Need to Know to Make Money with ePublishing last week and I have to say, I was inspired.  Sarah Mae is the girl behind 2 successful blogs called Like a Warm Cup of Coffee and Raising Homemakers.  She also is the co-founder of The Relevant Blogging Conference.  More importantly, Sarah Mae is just like me. She loves her motorcycle riding husband, teachers her babies and drinks a ton of coffee.  Well, she is younger and taller, but essentially she is just like me. After reading her Ebook, I am convinced that I, too, can successfully write and market my own Ebook.  She has given me the tools and the courage to start it yesterday {more on that later}.

In this book she covers:

  • Her own story
  • The nuts and bolts of how to write and publish the book
  • What is Spreadable Content
  • Branding, Community, Social Media, Image, and more
  • Answers all the questions you want to ask but have no idea who to ask

I love this from the opening chapter:

It’s time to redefine the way we think about eBooks.

We have this notion that an eBook can’t really be as great or as successful or as prestigious as a traditionally published print book. And I get that, I’ve been part of the mainstream thinking…but it’s time to change all our thinking. Why can’t an eBook be just as great or successful as a print book? In fact, this year the New York Times announced that it would begin eBook bestseller lists – this is huge for the independent publisher! Do you realize what this means? You have the opportunity to “make it big” without a traditional publisher. You can be a NYT’s bestselling author, and bring in a full-time income as a writer. (p.15)

If you have the same dream, buy this book now. Read it while drinking your morning coffee, and you will be writing your Ebook by dinner.

How about for fun we give away a copy of *How to Market and Sell Your eBook – Everything You Need to Know to Make Money with ePublishing right here, right now!  Leave a comment and tell me about the eBook you would love to write! Also, if you are a social media girl, give a tweet or post to Facebook and you can leave an extra comment for doing so!  Contest is open through Sunday and I’ll announce the winner next week!
