The Word of God and the Heroes Who Shaped America {Giveaway}

The first and almost the only book deserving of universal attention is the Bible.  I speak as a man of the world…and I say to you, ‘Search the Scriptures.’

John Adams, Second President of the United States of America

You know I love God’s Word.  I love sharing it with my girls in every way I can.  Next semester, we are  focusing on American History and studying our founding fathers.  I could not be more excited to tell you about a resource, produced by Thomas Nelson, that brings these two things together.  It is the Young American Patriot’s Bible ,by Dr. Richard G. Lee.

{from the inside cover} This Bible “pairs the New King James Version with articles focusing on many of the heroes and events that helped to make this nation what it is today.  Beautiful full-color insert pages spotlight a collection of presidents, great thinkers, influential people, monuments, and events that present the rich heritage and future of our great nation.”

Thomas Nelson was kind enough to send me a copy to review and my oldest daughter took it immediately to her room to read the 64 articles. I love that!  We are planning to use this as our school room Bible and keep in nearby as we study next semester. I believe, it will help my girls understand the importance of God’s Word and how it helped shape our country.

Teaming up for Hope

Today, I am teaming up for hope with my friend Brooke of the M.O.B. Society. Each Saturday in November, we will be writing on Hope for the Weary Mom.  Are you weary?  I know I am. Would you bring your coffee cup over to MODsquad today, and hang out with me there? It starts out something like this….

The dishes in my sink could have their own zip code. There has been a fort in my living room for days. My daughter has pirated all my best Fall decorations to decorate said fort. The baby is wrapped around my leg eating something she may have found on the floor. I’m searching for something under the couch when it hits me, “Where do I start?” to finish reading, click here.

P.S. The lucky winner of  2 copies of God’s Heart for You by Holley Gerth is Aubrey!  She has an adorable family, check them out!

Hope on Saturday

Last week, I wrote  a post about being Fresh Out of Amazing. Your response was so encouraging and yet it seems like many of us are in the same boat.  We all need a lifeline of hope tossed to us at some point.  And what I love about you and this place, is that God brought us together and gave us an idea.   I’d love to tell you more about it.  Would you be so sweet to join me, just for today, over at the MODsquad Blog?

{Thank you!  You are such a blessing to me!}

P.S.  This is for ALL moms. So if you have boys, please, please, please, join me!!

Back to School Week :: God Did Not Call me to a Quiet House

God did not call me to a quiet house…

Linda Werner, Circle Christian Schools

I long for quiet.

I wake up crazy early, every day so I can have a quiet time with the Lord.

I stay up too late after they go to bed, simply listening to the air conditioning run, and the quiet.

Our days are filled with words. Noise. Giggles. Outbursts. Life.

Meals seem to be the loudest most word filled time of all.

Sometimes, my ears hurt and my head spins because of the noise.

As a mother of 4 girls, I find that even when one of them is quiet, another picks up the slack.

I am still learning, after almost 12 years of being their mommy, to live in the hubbub and be, okay.

The funny thing is that I’m a talker, too, and it is quite possible that they get it from me.

So, last week when I heard this quote at a meeting, I smiled.

She had to be thinking of me and my husband, who wears noise canceling earphones at times to work and drive.

I know, what you are going to say. “Someday, it will be quiet, and you will miss it.”

And I think, no, it won’t. Because what I’m building, what I’m praying for, is a legacy, a home, a place where they keep coming back to.  They, all grown up, still talking and living life, with their noisy kids and dogs and life will be in my house. Forever.

Oh, you might find me hiding at times in my bedroom.  But, the sound will be music to my ears.

Multitude Monday

6 years ago, I took her to a Kindergarten Sunday school class for the first time.  In 6 more, she’ll be a senior.  Today, I sat in 6th grade orientation for our church’s student ministry.  So here we are, somewhere in the middle of my mothering and I’m counting my gifts, because if I don’t I’ll be a sobbing mess on the floor wishing for the days when she actually fit on my lap.

Counting 1,000 Gifts

#971  ”She’s the girl who knows the Bible front to back.” {said about her}

#972  The teachers who have poured into her, other than me.

#973  Every kind word said by others who see Jesus in her.

#974  How being her mom pushes me to keep growing in Christ.

#975  Our constant conversation about growing up.

#976  The faithful women who are standing just up ahead who will be mentoring her : I have prayed for you!

#977  How God is going to use her.

#978  That she listens when He speaks.
