The Best of + My Homeschool Crib

From August to May, most mornings you will find me here. You might notice the mismatched chairs and the fact that I only have 2 of them, but teach 3 kids. Yes. That is how we roll. More chairs would be great. Student #3 is typically on her bed or on the floor doing her work.  And, I find I am more comfortable in my sweet leatherish desk chair. If I get the chance to sit down, that is.

I will never part with this table. Yes, I let them write on it. A lot. They love it.

I am most proud of this wall. I pretended to be the Nester and hammered away. Oh, and yes, my husband was out of the country at the time. My plan is to fill the entire wall with artwork. (If you squint you can see the smallest of lights covering a strange outlet that is smack in the middle of the wall.  Nice.)

This is the absolute cleanest this desk will be. So of course I’m documenting it.  See the cute file folders crammed with stuff I have no idea what to do with? If you don’t know what to do, put it in a cute folder. And Nancy Drew, you have to have some mystery in your life, right?

So there it is,  a peak of my always in process school room. I was pleased this week with how it transformed from last year.  A printer stand, curtains, art stuff containment unit, photos, 10 Billy book cases, a globe collection and something inspiring over my desk would be great.  But, this is great, too.  We are blessed, and I am thankful!

And now some of  my Best Of as it pertains to new Homeschool stuff I’ve found:

I may have cried a little when I saw this.  Movies with FREE CURRICULUM! Reminds me of film strip day at school.

This is the genius stuff Jolanthe of Homeschool Creations puts out there for all of us who can’t dream it up!  This is a great way for spelling to be fun (like Scrabble for little ones!) And it is also FREE!

I found this idea on Pinterst which is an amazing resource for finding creative ideas.  This one is called Retelling the Story.  I love it for my Kindergartener, but I have a feeling her older sisters will join in, too!  This is not a homeschool site, but written by a kindergarten teacher.  Lover her ideas for hands on learning!

And finally, to bring a smile to your face this Friday, 20 Great Reasons You Homeschool via Five J’s, a great homeschooling website I subscribe to.

The Best Of {Comments}

One of my goals with this blog is for it to be a place where you feel at home. I love the idea of us hanging out on the porch in the rocking chairs, chatting it up!  Wouldn’t that be great? The best place for this type of interaction to happen is through your sweet comments. I love to hear from you!  And, when you comment, it gives others a chance to meet you and find their way to your blog. Here are a few comments from some great chats over the past couple of weeks:

What I Wore Wednesday:

{Me?  Super mom?  Oh, I only wish that were true!  But I love your heart for saying so friend!}

Grace Notes:  I am what I am:

{Danielle has been walking with me through the Grace Notes journey.  I am so grateful for her encouragement!}

Learning about engagement and hiding from my kids:

{This comment made me laugh!  But in a good “I’m so not alone kind of way”…. }

Relevant 11…So I bought a ticket:

{I love your honesty and your heart girl!   And I can’t wait to meet you at Relevant!}

{Actually, the comments on this post about Relevant 11 were very real and one of the reasons why I am looking forward to next October!   I think there are still a few tickets left! Click here for more information!}

Do you comment often on blogs? Or are you a lurker who loves to hide in the shadows? Do you respond to all the comments on your own blog?  I’d love to know your thoughts!  So please…leave a comment!

I love Twitter!

It is a great space for talkers, like yours truly, to chat with lovely people like you!  You can say something like this in 14o characters or less:

And someone will answer you back:

And now, I am the proud owner of  this, only mine is Amazing Grace (of course):

You can find Angie @ The Country Chic Cottage blog here, or her very cute Etsy store, here! And her Twitter feed, here.

Have you heard about Picnik?

Emily from Chatting At the Sky is my lifesaver.  She introduced me to Picnik, an amazing photo editing site.  They say “it gives real people photo editing super powers.” Yes, it does.  If I could, I would give Emily a IRL hug.  Because you see,  I have been trying to learn Photoshop for over a year now  Let’s just say, it has not gone well.  But, Emily swooped in, shared her knowledge and now I too have super powers.  You can too.  Did I mention, it is FREE?  Thanks Emily!
